In March 2006 the Mayor of London and the London Development Agency (LDA) took control of the National Sports Centre (NSC) from Sport England within the Park as part of London's bid for the 2012 Olympics.
From the run down and poor condition of many areas of the Park it became apparent that a masterplan was needed for the entire Park, and an outline masterplan application is the result of that need.
Underlying the masterplan is an understanding of the site and its many challenges, the needs of and aspirations of a deeply committed and motivated community and the practicalities of striking a balance between preserving its heritage both as a park and major sports centre and creating a Park for the 21st century.
The LDA's vision is to rejuvenate Crystal Palace Park as a metropolitan Park, heritage, cultural, leisure, educational and recreational resource to meet the needs of local people, sports people and the wider public. It is envisaged that the regeneration and rejuvenation of the Park would act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of the area.
The LDA wants to see more open green space, better access and a revitalised Park.
The LDA are working with partners - notably Sport England, Greenwich Leisure Limited, the London Borough of Bromley and local and statutory stakeholders - to plan the long-term future of the Park's facilities.
The LDA are in ongoing dialogue with a range of community representatives, organisations and sports associations to ensure we share our ideas and developments on a regular basis. This website forms a key part of that dialogue.
The LDA has the option to take on responsibility for the whole park in March 2009.
