Proposal for the new Maze

After consultation with the London Development Agency (LDA) and LBB Girlguiding UK has commissioned artists Brooke & Black to create an interactive artwork for the local community as well as girlguides from home and abroad.

It is proposed to take the opportunity to restore and re-establish the maze and it’s setting, and to set an artwork within it.

It is of utmost importance that this area is safe for all members of the public, which at present it is not, and therefore the following forms part of the proposals for the project:

Reinstating the maze

  • Reducing the height of the maze hedges to about 1.5m
  • Retention of all trees
  • Essential arboricultural work to existing trees on the mound
  • Clearing the rhododendrons
  • Planting a new outer ring of poplars for posterity
  • Infilling the existing ring of poplars
  • Redefining the centre of the maze, details will be available in January 2009
  • Sowing a meadow up to the maze.

This project is being delivered and funded through a partnership between the London Borough of Bromley, LDA and Girlguiding UK. A funding application has also been lodged with the Mayor’s Priority Parks initiative. This relies on the public vote.
